For my first week of pleasure reading I read the book Heaven is for Real. This book is a story told by Todd Burpo. Todd and his wife Sonja have a daughter Cassie, a son Colton, and a son Colby. Sonja at one time was pregnant with another child but had a miscarriage. Todd owns a garage door company and is a pastor at a church. Sonja works part time as a teacher. The family does a little bit of traveling, when they do they run into a series of bumps along the way. Colton starts to feel sick and they take him to the doctor and they were told it was the stomach flu. It ended up getting worse as their vacation went on. They had to take him to the hospital and found out his appendix had ruptured. We later find out that while Colton was in surgery he went to heaven. As time goes on he shares more and more details of heaven with his family.
I have heard several people talk a about this book over the past year or so. I thought I would give it a shot. I found the story to be very touching. It was a nice break from the type of books that I would usually read. It was a very easy book to read, wasn't hard to follow at all. Because of that, I found it hard to put down and I ended up reading it in one day!
Monday 10-3-11 - I read for 140 minutes.
